well, not really, but it is quite pretty! and, it did get me some pretty high praise (best piece of construction in twenty years of teaching!), so i'm okay with that. this is a suit i made- pants, waistcoat and coat- for The Triumph of Love (ha!) designed by my friend Justin. this suit was for the leading lady, who impersonates a man to gain the love of some guy. strange. written by Marivaux in 1732, and supposedly a comedy, but i thought it was just mean to trick people and take advantage of loneliness. at least there were some pretty clothes to look at, especially this! ha! so, without further ado... here are my pretty things:
and, more...
the coat and pants are more of a pinkish rather than bright red, but i can't quite get it right on the computer. the pic of just the vest and pants is the closest to the real colors. i really love that vest fabric! the color combo for the whole thing is very pretty, i think.
one last pic- it's a close-up of the back, while we were working out the placement of the gold motifs. you can see that my little square thingies aren't all lined up, but you can also see the thread tracing i'd done on the pleats to mark them before sewing them in.
this coat is the same era as the coat i made last semester for draping, so it was fun to put it together in real fabric this time, and with some small variations. i draped a whole new pattern, too, so now i feel pretty comfortable draping this style of coat. and making it! wooo!
Wow, Erin, that is amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Thank you for the pics! Fantail coats are the hardest. I had to do one at the Opera - nearly didn't make it through that (made my tailor help me). The whole ensemble is a fantastic piece. Cheers!
